What color do you use the most in your paintings?
When you are ordering paint, do you find yourself ordering sets of paint, or particular colors?
I am curious what others do.
thank you in advance,
Joseph
JosephDurham White. Order in 200ml tubes. Over 2 years with only a hundred of paintings I used 3 or 4 big tubes. Next is Cad yellow (3 standard tubes) and alizarin crimson( 2 standard tubes) and phtalo blue (1.5 so far). I had a set of different browns van dyk, burnt sienna and umber - all 3 are gone.
So pretty much like @mgiese.
White for sure. Otherwise cad yellow, sap green and van dyke brown are probably my most used. I usually just order them as I need them. But I do order the bigger tubes so I don't have to order as often.
Seconded Matt. White goes the fastest, then Cad Yellow, then probably Van Dyke Brown for me. At first I only got a set of small 37ml tubes, but now I'm getting the 200 ml.
I'll probably have enough Yellow Ochre for the next 600 paintings đ
ShadowscarsDragon So you just order the sets of 200ml?
ShadowscarsDragon phthalo green too. Don't use that much outside of the seascapes.
JosephDurham No, I started with all 13 or so colors Bob uses, all in 37 ml, and as they ran out, replaced them with 200 ml. I use Winsor and Newton oil paints.
ShadowscarsDragon Gotcha!! Sorry for the confusion.
ShadowscarsDragon yep I did the same thing.
Mgiese84 True. Also my âbright redâ doesnât get a lot of use. Which is just as well, because it doesnât behave like bright red (I got Cadmium Red Hue)
ShadowscarsDragon you can use your bright red for nice purples instead of alizarin only, and also to mix beautiful realistic greens with phtalo green and addition of touch of yellow and/or white.
Titanium white is the only colour i buy in 200ml tubes, used in pretty much every painting but i also mix my own liquid white which uses a lot. Cerilian blue and cad yellow are second and third.
