So, amidst my new found passion I have acquired a lot of oil paint, and I mean A LOT!!!!! I have been reading peoples posts all over the internet stating that with the lid down is the best way to store your oil paint because of the oil and pigment. Do you believe this to be true? How do you store your paint?

This isn’t necessarily my everyday oil paint either; the ones I’m talking about are all my paints stored up that I’ve found and bought in bulk, et cetera.

thank you,

Joseph

Thank you for your input Felix. Looks like I need to do some rearranging. I have tons of extra tubes that I have found discounted and got as much as I could. Lol. I know the shelf life is 30-40 years, based on what I’ve read, and the last thing that I want is to ruin it.

If anyone is willing, I would love to see how you store your extra tubes of paint.

      20 days later

in a drawer ;D I dont obsess too much about storage of paint. Except when I mix a custom batch. I use small condiment plastic containers with lids.. into the freezer they go. The containers come in 1 and 2 oz sizes and many fast food places have stacks of them. They are on Amazon and ebay for pennies. I will fill my own tubes if it's something I use a lot of. I also will buy a large tube of say TI White.. and as I use the tube down to about 1/2-1/4 I will transfer the paint to a smaller tube. If it is just a few days, I cover the piles with plastic wrap and into the freezer
