Hey all. I'm wondering what the best way to hang a canvas might be. Sawhooks? D-hooks? A wire going across the back? How do I decide what method to use? Thanks.

Air nailer ;D. Seriously.. most framed art seems to work best with the wire hanger. Infinitely adjustable. Unlike the saw hooks. The only time I ever used saws was on photographs mounted to the thick plastic blocks or for cheap "canvas" inkjet prints. Just my opinion ๐Ÿ™‚

Wire is absolutely the way to go. And then you can get a hook with a brad for the wall. If you stretch the wire taut enough, measuring to hang it at the desired height is a cinch.

Wire. you need to attach wire to the stretcher bars if your frame is made of a foam material. If that is a wooden frame - wire holders(D rings) to the frame. Distance to attach is 1/3 from the top of canvas and then pull the wire through those d-rings and make the wire tightened.

Trouble come when canvas board/panel needs to be hang - this is only need to be hang to the frame. Since canvas board is heavier than canvas of the same size frame need to be sturdier.

However a simplest trick if you live in a house and walls in your house are made from drywall and you want to hang 16*20 inch canvas without a frame - the simple office pin will work the magic. Just get those that look like the sand clock shape. In this budget way - You can hang as many paintings as you wish in one day. If there is no draft or doors near that open and close to create the wind they will hang this way 3 years easily (probably would be more if I did not have to move my art from the room). Also it is only a tiny hole left after and no need for major repair of the wall.

For pins, I like these - Picture Hangers, Art Hangers, One Step Installation, Brass Finish, 60Lb

They just push in and are a pre-set angle with a wide base to distribute the load over the drywall. Easy ๐Ÿ™‚

I have always used the little eyelet screws and never been disappointed. I bought one large pack for maybe $5 in 2008 and haven't run out yet. Then I use a bit of thin baling wire that I just pass back and forth between the eyelets a few times, with the last pass twisted around the first few lengths. Strong as can be.

Having a wire across the back of the canvas is by far my favorite method. It makes hanging super quick and easy! Iโ€™m not sure how much weight that method can hold but fortunately I donโ€™t have anything larger than 16 x 20 at the moment.
