Im having trouble getting enough paint to come off the 1” brush to do evergreens, foliage.
I eventually just started using a foliage brush and that works better.

im doing the episode 3 season 1 black painting and cant get the yellow/ green paint to come off of the fan brush to make the rolling hills. I spent a long time redoing this area and wonder if theres tips on getting the fanbrush to make foliage.
I think part of the problem is my crimson background is too wet, but when I add some thinner or liquid white the hills come out as SMUDGES or it takes off the too layer on the canvas if I use the fan brush.

The two usual suspects are 1. not loading enough paint on the brush, and 2. using insufficiently thinned paint on thick paint. Therefore, since you have already tried thinning your paint (and may I suggest trying oil instead of thinner?), I would next try to really load up the brush. Bob frequently shows how ridges in the paint on the palette form when he lifts a sufficiently loaded brush. Failing all that, consider whether your paints themselves are to blame. A lot of oils are too fatty for the method.

Yeah.. BR uses a TON of paint.. to be honest, that's why I've moved on to more traditional styles of painting while using some of the wet on wet techniques. I was burning through paint at high rate .. I keep using too little paint which caused issues like this. It takes ALOT of paint to load a 1inch brush which is why he had such big piles on the palette. That took me a while to figure out.
