I was going to make a new thread about this but then I saw this one. It finally happened that I sold a few paintings in the past 2 months. With 100 paintings under my belt and a baby on the way, I needed to make some room, so I put up a few online via classified ads. I had a lady come to my place and purchased 2 for 100$ a piece. Recently, I sold 3 to family members for 100$, so approximately 33$ a piece. I've also had a few other inquiries and, recently, someone sought me out and asked if she could commission me to paint something. I had to politely decline as I really don't have the time (nor the interest, to be perfectly honest), to be commissioned to paint at this point in time. I also don't really consider myself a "painter" so I would feel odd accepting a commission. Being an avid musician and understanding how competitive the art world is, I'd much rather this individual commission someone that has pursued art as their profession and relies on this type of work to remain financial afloat.
I was just wondering if anyone else here has sold paintings and what we all believe to be a fair price? Technically speaking, the paintings I just sold for 33$ a pop barely covers the base materials. They were family so I didn't mind, but I think 100$ a painting for 3 hours of work is a decent price. I am curious to hear other people's opinions!
