Anybody else use these?.....They are great in that paint can be removed from brushes using only water but the problem arises when trying to remove linseed oil (yes, i also use the artisan WMO linseed) but it's so difficult to wash out and it leaves brushes ....well not stiff but kinda clogged, the use of spirits to clean them negates the whole point of using WMO. I have tried an overnight soak in soapy water but no joy ....Any tips?
Water mixable oils
I use the water based with linseed oil and clean with Baby oil after as per Mazart youtube tutorial. (this is when i have a lot of time and brush is relatively new). After that i use just soap used to wash clothes and some of the oil gets removed and some is left as conditioner. However most of the times this is odorless paint thinner and then baby oil to recondition brushes. Hope that helps. Also very interested to see other people replies about it.
It does help Sunny, thankyou!....you mention soap used for clothes, could you be more specific?
They call it laundry soap bar as per Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=laundry+soap+bar&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

Hello tel.
I know what you mean about the brushes feeling sort of clogged or stiff. I use Winsor & Newton Water-Mixable Oils, as well as the company's linseed oil, and it's great that most of the paint comes out by just running the brush under the faucet. For me, that's only the first step, though. From there (and I'm still working on this cleaning procedure), I do the following...
- Using fingers, rub dish soap into the bristles (gets more paint out)
- Repeat step #1 using Soft Scrub (the grittiness gets out the more stubborn stains - hey, I sound like a commercial
)
- Finally, I wash the brushes in Murphy's Oil Soap (not sure if that last step gets out any paint, but the brushes seem to feel a little softer afterward)
I found out how to add an image...
Regards,
Alex
Thanks Alex, quite the routine you have going, i was hoping to avoid all this when i changed to water mixables but it seems water alone is simply not enough to remove water mixable linseed ....thanks for your good advice
I use “the masters” soap for my acrylics. Love love love the stuff! I bought a giant tub and I just swirl a rinsed out brush in the stuff an after a few rinses it all comes out. Best cleaner I’ve ever found. I purchased some water mixable oils but have yet to try them but according to the masters website it can also be used for oils.
Have wanted to try water mix oils ( was having major issues with brush cleaning on oils, so thought these might work) but can you do wet on wet technique with water mix oils? Do they blend as well?
Hi Mrs C, yes they are fine for wet on wet and they blend just like regular oils, the bonus is NO spirits.
