Just a quick question. I’m still learning. I use Bob Ross paint thinner and order two containers each month. I paint roughly 2 paintings a week. Sometimes more. Is this average for replacing and recording paint thinner? Or am I wasting what I get? What is the best practice?

thanks.

Happyisland there where few discussions here how to reduce waste.
I will summarize - you need to have 1- clean thinner; 1- jar for cleaning; 1 bottle to collect waste.

let bottle with waste to sit down for couple of days - paint will segregate and on top you will get quite clean thinner that you can carefully pour back in the cleaning jar.
when bottle to collect waste is full of residue paint and it will take a long time you can take it to proper disposal.

make sure that lids are tightly closed as paint thinner has some bad effects on health and flammable as well. This will prevent evaporation.
If you paint every 2 days that often you may need to have two bottles for contaminated solvent and rotate them on weekly base.

You will use clean thinner in painting and refill cleaning jar from time to time with clean one because evaporation happens to some extent anyway.
Reused paint thinner is as good for cleaning as new one.

Thank you so much for your help. That is some great advice. Will also look more carefully before I post next time so I’m not asking a question that is already answered. Thank you Sunnylady 🙂

    Have a great day

      11 days later

After I’ve let my dirty thinner settle, I pour it back through a funnel and coffee filter back into a bottle of “clean” thinner. It takes a little time but I’m able to reuse my gamsol over and over and over.
