Congratulations to the winners, great event, absolutely loved it, look forward to the next one!
Felix congratulations to the winners! Congratulations to all participants! This was incredible event with all the beautiful paintings with a lot of knowledge acquired while working on the everyone’s own versions!
Oh wow! I had the worst day at work so it’s so nice to come home to wonderful news.
Congrats to all the participants! This was my favorite event so far. Excellent idea! It was so nice seeing renditions of paintings I already loved, and then learning about new artists and their work.
Well done to the winners...but why three winners and not 3rd, 2nd &1st ?
tel Maybe because some entries might get the same the number of votes, then somebody would have to call it. It doesn't matter anyway, its only for fun. I think every entry is a winner in it's own way. Just watched the Timothy Small video on Lowry at the Lowry gallery. I noticed they claimed to understand the man but they didn't dig very deep. I don't think you can understand him unless you understand his affliction, aspergers syndrome, it certainly helps you read between the lines when you watch the documentaries about him. I will visit there when I can, thanks for the suggestion. I never thought I would say this, but I'd like to paint another two Lowry seaside scenes. I might be a little bit hooked, I can't stop singing that song he had in the charts . . . . "He painted matchstalk men and matchstalk cats n dogs, he painted kids on the corner of the street in their sparking clogs . . . ."
TheLandscapePainter Sheer poetry my friend, in your comments and in your creations!
I had wondered if Lowry qualified for the title "old master" guess it depends on interpretation, i mean he was old for sure but i guess few would have referred to him as a master...I love his work but also understand why many would dislike the childlike quality but he had the last laugh diden't he?
tel Probably not, but who knows in time. And he certainly did have the last laugh. The thing is with aspergers, these people tend to be single minded loners with not much going on in their life but when they find something they want to do they are absolutely driven, and amazingly good at it, even genius. There's nothing you can say or do to steer them in a different direction. If not for his condition, just like many of us he might have given up at the first sign of criticism. Most thought he was just a silly bloke who painted silly looking characters. But it just happens to be what interested him, and having tried it myself I have to say it really isn't that easy. He may not have thought of himself as one of those characters he painted, but I notice he did wear a suit when he was painting!
