Hi everyone! So I'm fairly new here and am becoming obsessed with painting! I'm starting to ponder the idea of perhaps (with more practice ) of selling my originals and prints of my better pieces. This is happening quite organically for me, so it would just be a little side gig to spread the joy of my paintings into other people's homes. Anyone here have experience with selling their artwork? How do you prefer to market/price/ ship your artwork? Any tips? Thanks!
Selling/pricing artwork
Oh my goodness, same question I was gonna ask. I thought about Etsy as it seems their items bring a pretty penny. Also wondered if my boarded canvasses need a frame or paint the edges a solid color with gesso or acrylic. Please any suggestions will be appreciated!
Thank you so much Mgiese84. The selling without the frame would be much simpler.
I concur, leave framing to the buyer. The artwork is not the only consideration, but the space in which it will be displayed. You can't anticipate that. I have walked away from framed art because I was unwilling to pay the markup for a frame I knew I would have to replace.
Painting the side edges of a stretched canvas is nice, if you want to give the buyer the option of hanging it unframed, but do not intrude on image area. They will matte it themselves if they want it matted.
Thanks for all of the comments on the frame question. Has anyone sold their art online? Trying to figure out the best site to try. Happy painting everyone!
