This painting was a lot of fun, though my arm was tired after applying all the sap green as the first layer, haha! I tried to take a little more time with this painting, and found that I didn’t have as many issues with muddiness (though there’s still some). Adding rocks is proving to be a challenge for me. Bob makes them look so easy!
Does anyone find they always have a lot of leftover reds from their paintings? I threw in some reddish bushes to try to utilize some more of it, but looking back they may stand out too much.
I agree with Pietro, I love the water as well. It's very realistic. I used to have red left over so I only squeeze out the tiniest amount now. You can mix your red with sap green, in equal parts it makes the most beautiful brown colour and has lots of uses for highlights or mid tones. Try it on rocks, land, tree trunks, mountains, footpaths, cabins, twigs, leaves...
Love the water and the green shades.
Thank you all for the feedback. I love being on this painting journey! I will certainly try mixing the red into my other colors. It sounds like it will add some very nice depth!
