A Trace of Spring

Hmmm... I dunno. I don’t like it much, mostly because I had new brushes and they did not behave like I had hoped. Obtaining good quality brushes is really hard apparently.

I know what you mean. Having the right equipment and materials is half the battle isn't it. I use BR brushes which are great but your canvas does need to be smooth and mine aren't even with an added layer of gesso so I've been getting disappointing results recently too. It might be worth persevering with your new brushes for a while, see if you can get along with them, if not I can recommend Bob's brushes combined with smooth canvas.

You convinced me, I just ordered a few BR official brushes. For the smooth canvases, for me I discovered it was always about putting enough gesso - doesn't matter if it says it's already gessoed, just add a good generous layer before you start and then it works well for me.

Yes I think I haven't been as generous with the gesso application as I need to be. Good luck with your BR brushes, I think you will like them.
