Winter's Peace

Jenni 19 Apr 2019

I started this one and didn't finish it, I like to quit early.

Don’t Quit early! Make it fun! Paint like it’s practice and not so serious, like it’s life or death. I just found this out with my last painting. I was going to wipe it clean and start over, but I used it as a practice canvas and IMO it came out pretty decent. Once I felt the pressure was off, the fun began. I’m not saying it’s not frustrating, because it is! Practice makes all the difference. Keep on painting and make it fun!!

By the way, the sky, reflections and trees are very good!!!

Thank you!

Even though this may sound strange, if you're painting and for some reason really do not like the way it's coming out, instead of abandoning it or wiping it clean, try and use it as an opportunity to apply the old 'we don't make mistakes, just happy accidents' adage and try and turn it into something you do like. It absolutely is a skill we can practice!

Having said that, your sky looks really nice. Was this on a black canvas where you added these colors first and then used the white over them? My suggestion would be to let some of the colors bleed into one another, and that you can really blend them so you can't tell where one color starts and the other ends. It would be helpful to really inspect pictures of actual sunsets, or real sunsets outside, to get an idea of how that looks like in nature.
