Shades of Grey

NickyOhio 28 Dec 2024

This is my second painting ever, just starting out. Trying to understand how much is right for liquid white to start, I think too much paint for the sky and not enough for the bright side of the mountain, I did think making the trees w/ the knife was easier to control than fan brush. Felt like this would be easier since only 3 colors. Having trouble keeping my paints “separated” once I go back to pallet after painting something….i seem to get too much paint on edge corner of knife and maybe not enough paint across entire knife edge - having trouble getting that snowy effect / looks more like sloppy paint mix….tbh, painting looks better in photo than real life. Any beginner tips based on observations would be appreciated. Thx

Well for your 2nd painting ever, it’s pretty darn good!

Nicely done ✌️

Looks really good for a second ever. The more I paint, the more inclined I am to use less liquid white (and especially very little if using liquid clear). For mountains, I scrape off as much of the darker underpaint as possible, then use the lightest possible pressure with a very small amount of that thick Ti white paint on the edge of the knife to highlight. Good luck and have fun experimenting!

2nd painting, no way. You did great

Thanks for tips!
