I always enjoy working on a dark canvas. Considering the Joy of Painting episodes are only 30 minutes, I am somewhat surprised the black canvas preparations weren't the default standard. I think they are a bit faster. since you don't have to apply nearly as much paint in the dark foreground.

I agree with gesso preparation shortening the painting process. I'm always amazed at what Bob could accomplish in such a short amount of time.
