Winter Night

Tom0779 19 Sep 2024

Painting 3 of 3 from previous weekend.
I mentioned it, due to strong rain the whole weekend, I had enough time to paint πŸ˜€
I wanted to use liquid black which I had not used since ages. Thus this episode caught my attention. To be somewhat different I didn’t really follow Bob here. I wanted to make a light spot by introducing a moon to the whole scene. Also I did make my grey from alizarin crimson and phtalo green more to the greenish side. I thought that would give the scene a little extra. I made the snow surface very rough by just using the knife.

I would be glad for your opinion as always but especially for that one.

It is oils on canvas panel 16 x 24 inches (40 x 50 cm)

First of all, it looks great, the greenish coloring gives the whole thing a mysterious touch. The light spot and the moon support the entire effect .The rough snow surface reminds me of Bill. πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ

I like it. The glow in the cabin is perfect. The choppy snow kinda looks like a rough river.

Love i! Love the glow on the snow, so beautiful!

The colouring worked really well, I think phalo green is very underutilised generally and its always nice to see it. The moon was a great addition and you always do a fabulous job with lighting. That shadow area on the ground to the left of the cabin is my favourite bit, that works so well.

Excellent

Nice work as always, Tom. The grey color is spot on, and the texture from the knife adds to the drama.

Love this scene! You are the master at lighting vs. shadow. This one doesn't disappoint!

Thank you Dirk, definitely influenced by Bill. I am not sure if I will go over it again on several parts.

Thanks a lot Bob for your feedback!

Thank you Sandy for your support!

Thank you Landscapepaitner for you detailed feedback. As more I paint as more I aim for paintings with strong dark/Light Contrast. Maybe this is the natural way. I think I still have to learn a lot here, but I am happy that you recognized it. Thank you.

Thank you Cold!

Thank you Jon for looking into this and your feedback!

Thanks Nancy. I try to learn a lot for light/shadow contrast. Still a long way to go to reach a good standard, but a start is done :)
