Purple Splendor

Tom0779 09 Sep 2024

My first Bob re-creation since 14 months. I plan to do more of Bob's episodes in the future again, though I prefer Bill.
This is a rather easy one which I thought will be a great start to get back to Bob again. As normal I did the big evergreens with the 1-inch brush instead of the fan brush. In my opinion this brush makes better branches, but it needs some practice.
I also made the water much darker on purpose. I like the strong contrasts and normally the reflection in the water is darker.
Overall a nice episode which can be taken as the very first painting also.
This is oils on canvas panel 16 x 20 inches (40 x 50 cm)

Good one Tom! ❤️

Your evergreens are spot on imho.
Does Bill do evergreens with the 1-inch brush?

And I also like make the water darker. And in this case it makes extra sense, because the pond should be frozen and clean ice often looks dark.

Thank you Titia.
To answer your question: Bill does use a 2 1/2 inch brush (even bigger than Bobs largest one) to create the trees. I learned to use the 1-inch brush. The effect is almost the same in my opinion. But I like to use the 2 inch one more often in the future.

It looks to perfection Tom! Beautiful BR comeback. lol! Your evergreens are right on! I need more practice to make evergreens with the 1”. You are right about making better branches.

Very nice Tom! I hope you will not forget our Bill haha!

Wonderful work Tom ✌️👍

Really gorgeous work!

Top work ,Tom👍🏼🇩🇪

Thanks Nancy. It definitely needs a little bit of practice with the 1 inch brush. I currently think even about switching to the two inch brush for the evergreens.
The bigger the brush the more loose and free the trees look in my opinion.

Thanks Jos, definitely will never forget Bill. New ones will follow soon.

Thanks Brian!

Thanks Sandy as always for your support.

Thank you Dirk.
