Reflections of Gold

NickReynolds 18 Jun 2024

I painted this one only going by the audio. My sister picked the painting and played it on her phone and I painted it in real time in accordance with Bob's spoken instructions (which were a little lacking, if I can be honest 😄)

Lovely work. Very nice soft and calming colors.

Nice warm colours. Love the effect you've got going on the snow. How did you get it to ripple like that? I've been trying to get that effect on wet sand with zero success!

Nice Nick! Cool approach to this one too. 👍✌️

very nicely done

@TheLandscapePainter I'm not sure what you mean by the ripple effect. I just painted the snow with a brush, then added highlights with the knife. Bob called this one a winter scene, but it really does look more like sand, both in the original, and in mine.

I think they may be referring to the distortion that happens in cameras - when there are lots of fine parallel lines, something like an optical illusion occurs, it appears this way. I primarily notice said distortion on high def photos of art where the grain of the canvas is visible.

Yes Jeffth, that's it! oh dear I've just embarrassed myself haven't I. Oh well its not the first time and I doubt it will be the last :)
The illusion does look to me like those grooves in the sand left behind by little rivulets of water when the tide goes out sometimes, that's what I've been trying to paint.
Anyway hypercycloid, it looks great, I was trying to figure out how you did it, but you didn't, that's so funny, I'm such a numpty!
