It may be hard to tell but I think I learned somethings on this one. Will apply it to the next one and hope it shows. I look forward to coming back to this one and comparing progress.

It looks like you're getting quite a bit of mud mixing, and from the looks of it, I think the culprit is too much liquid white. For this technique to work, you need just a thin film of oil covering the canvas and no more.
Personally I spend a good 5 or so minutes coating my canvas because I use such a small amount of liquid white that I really have to scrub it into the weave of the canvas. But you can also put on a bit more than you need to save time coating the canvas, then take a clean, dry 2" brush and brush back and forth over the canvas to pick up the excess liquid white.
