This is on a 12x20 piece of slate that I inherited from my great grandmother. She used to do acrylic paintings on slate before she passed away, however she would prime them with a white gesso first. I realized that slate could work as a black canvas without any need for a gesso layer, and I'm quite happy to say that this turned out wonderfully.

Great idea to paint this on a piece of slate. Came out really nice. I just painted this scene tonight as well 😆
