Before taking on one of the most challenging paintings from Bob, I need more mountain practice so decided on this creation for today.
The end result was very poor and had all to do with the way too small size of the canvas. Big mistake to use 1 inch brushes there!
Canvas used was a budget 10"x12". A not too difficult painting or perhaps one might mention the bushes and grasslands which need more diversity to show up more prominent and, as mentioned before, a much smaller brush.
I think the best of my creation might be the water?!
I think the overall shape of your mountain is quite good (disclaimer - I am NOT a mountain painting expert - LOL). When I do paint them I struggle with making sure they do not look like vertical "stripes" and I have watched Bob a lot when he adds his extra highlight parts that jut in and out, creating new planes. (how to explain?) I believe that Mgiese84, joha59 and Kaylee paint stunning mountains. They would be good examples to look at the way to enhance the depth and complexity of your mountains!
Thank you Sandy, at least you spotted positive things in my calamity.
This would've been ten times better and easier if I had chosen a 16"x20" canvas, I really struggle with the smaller sizes!
The artists you mention Pam are indeed very comfy with mountaineering! 😂
I need a lucky day ofr mountains to com out well but again, the bigger the canvas, the better I create them.
Soon (January), I will take on one of Bob's hard challenges and therefor wanna be 150% prepared!
Mountains are tough. Definitely a lot harder than Bob makes them look. But there is some good depth in the foreground. I have the same issue with bushes not showing up the way I want. It’s tough to find balances between the amount of under paint, and then how much or little paint you need on your brush and how hard or soft you need to tap the canvas to get them on there
Thanks for commenting Bob!
Normally foliage and bushes are my forté but I need to choose my brushes and cavasses more carefully. I very much adore and handle the tapping but recently discovered Bob's trick/technique of placing the bristels against the canvas and producing a little push. Quite a different effect and I believe I need more practice with it!
Voy, curious as to which challenging Bob painting you're referring too?

I think the bushes and grasslands look good! The mountain came out good too! We all need all the practice we can get!
