Painting with MilanC. part 20: Свети Сава

Just like always, here are the main phases of my painting process:
01. Preparation phase;
02. Sketch phase;
03. Painting phase.

I Preparation phase:

Saint Sava day is a holiday celebrated by all schools and churches in Serbia. The day is celebrated on every day on January 27th, marking the day of his passing. Since the day was approaching, I thought of painting Saint Sava for the school holiday. After I was done, I got a call from a professor and she told me to bring it  to school. Тhe original source for this icon is the icon from Mileševa Monastery:

For this painting, I’ll be using pencils and crayons on Blok 5 (A5 format paper). I also used crayons, wooden colors and some pencils. For colors, I was using black, yellow, orange, brown, gray and blue.

II Sketch phase:

In this phase, we'll draw a sketch for the painting, nothing special. Unfortunately, the top part of the icon couldn't fit, so I drew it without the top part. After drawing the sketch, we’ll end up with something like this:

III Painting phase:

For the last phase, wasn't that hard painting it. I first painted all black spots, before painting all brown spots. Next, I painted the head all white spots. I really like how the white spots turned out because it looks more old. Overall it wasn't that difficult and it took me about 5 hours to paint it, but for now, we should get something like this:

The last thing left to do is the background. It wasn't that difficult as well. I struggled a bit with the letters, but that was also fine. Overall for the full painting, it took me about 9 hours to paint everything. I'm also happy with how the final product turned out:
