Painting with MilanC. part 12: Фёдор Достоевский
Just like always, here are the main phases of my painting process:
01. Preparation phase;
02. Sketch phase;
03. Painting phase.
I Preparation phase:
For my next idea, I thought of painting Fyodor Dostoevsky, a famous Russian novelist. The original inspiration was the portrait by Vasily Perov, a famous Russian painter:
For this painting, I’ll be using pencils and crayons on Blok 5 (A5 format paper). I also used crayons, wooden colors, some pencils and a marker. For colors, I was using a combination of black, yellow, orange and brown.
II Sketch phase:
In this phase, I'll draw a sketch for the painting, nothing special. Just like with Leonardo da Vinci, I also added a frame on top, because there was a lot of free space. After drawing the sketch, we’ll end up with something like this:
III Painting phase:
For the last phase, I first started by painting his outfit. I then struggled a bit just to find a perfect gradient for his skin. Eventually, I first applied orange and mixed it with yellow, then I did some shading with a pencil. While I was there I also painted the frame on top. For the time being, it should look like this:
The last thing I painted was the background. I was first using a marker mixed with pencil, but it ended up tearing the paper a bit, leaving some white spots on the paper. Then I applied a black crayon and then did some shading with a pencil and it didn't leave a single spot. For some parts I added some orange for more saturation. Overall, I'm really happy with a result:
