The View from Kawaguchi Lake
I think this method can be applied not only to this picture but to drawing various things. Please use this for your work.
Although painting a mountain like BobRoss usually requires a lot of practice.
On the other hand, painting Mt. Fuji, is not so difficult.
If you are interested in this including beginners please try it!
Of course you can change the materials freely.
Materials 2”brush 1”brush #6 fan brush (oval brush) (Fixative)
Script liner brush Small knife pencil (Charcoal) (Black gesso)
Liquid White Titanium White Phthalo Blue Midnight Black,
Van dyke Brown Alizarin Crimson Sap Green Cadminum Yellow
Underlined items are not necessities
Divide the canvas into three equal parts to determine the position of the water
Draw a line approximately one third from the bottom parallel to the canvas
with a pencil.
Draw the outline of Mt. Fuji with a pencil This is an actual landscape.
From this place, Mt. Fuji is slightly elevated at the right end, so please draw a line carefully and draw roughly the cherry tree trunk.
If the contour is out of order, please correct it at this stage.
Draw a line with charcoal to clarify this line.
To fix charcoal on canvas using fixative
Leave it for about 15 minutes. (If you don't use the fixer, the canvas
gets dirty) If you don't have a charcoal or fixer, you can use Black Gesso instead.
Apply Liquid White as usual.
Apply a small amount of AC to the 2 ”brush and use criss cross stroke
slightly above the mountain to spread the color on both sides of the mountain.
Apply PHB from the top of the canvas to the top of the AC and blur
with a clean brush.
Reload 2”inch brush with same color and use horizontal stroke add
the water at bottom of canvas.
Mix PHB AC TW to make a mountain base color.
Take a small amount of this color on the knife and apply it along the contour of the mountain.
I'm sure you know how to draw clouds, so I'll skip this time.
Mix PHB AC TW to make a mountain base color.
Use a 1 ”brush to spread the base color over the entire mountain.
Take TW with the knife and put a highlight on the left side of the mountain,
but it is okay if there is no snow break like Bob.
This is because SNOW BREAK is often not seen on Mt. Fuji.
Mix a small amount of PHB and the base color of the mountain
with TW and cast a shadow on the right side of the mountain with a knife.
Make a mixed color of MB PHB AC TW .
Load the oval brush with the color and paint the forest on the opposite bank
Apply SG and CY to a clean oval brush and highlight the forest
then pull the dark color straight down and lightly brush across to a reflect
the forest into the water.
Draw a cherry tree to the right of the opposite bank with
a small amount of AC to TW using a clean oval brush .
Apply a color of TW mixed with a small amount of AC to the # 6 fan brush
and shape the cherry blossoms.
Load the 1 "brush LW and TW , highlight using the corner of the 1" brush.
Use thinned Van Dyke Brown on the liner brush to add the cherry blossom trunk
and branches.
Excellent tutorial Jin! I am very eager to try this painting one day.
